ANTIQUE EXHIBITION

ADDRESS BY MR. C. R. FORD Many visitors were again present yesterday at the loan exhibition of antiques which is being held in Hart's Buildings, High Street, in aid of the funds of the Plunket Society and the Girl Guides' Association. Last evening a short address on "Pictures and Prints" was delivered by Mr. C. R. Ford, the speaker dealing with the subject from the point of view of the collector. In collecting articles of any kind, Mr. Ford said, the collector might regard his chosen hobby in any one of several different ways', He might be a genuine lover of beauty and desire to acquire only those works, in any field, that satisfied his aesthetic craving. On the other hand, he might regard his collection as an investment, solely or principally, and purchase works which in his judgment would grow in monetary value. A collector also might be possessed simply of an urge for acquisition. There was another ideal of collecting, said Mr. Ford. There was the wish to ensure that those subjects of utility or legitimate decoration which were necessary, or desirable, in our homes shorild bo articles of beauty and interest, satisfying to the eye and giving permanent pleasure.
