OTAGO FRUIT CROP
DAMAGE BY FROSTS LIGHTER YIELD EXPECTED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN. Thursday Continued frosts during the past few weeks are reported to Lave seriously affected fruit crops in certain parts of Central Otago. It is stated that as a result the yield will be lighter than it has been for several seasons. Early apricots have suffered most from the prevalent frosts, which have varied in intensity in the Alexandra district from 10 degrees to 17 degrees. Blossom is now gradually coming out on the trees, but the development of buds is being retarded by frosts. Peach trees will shortly come into blossom and growers are hoping for a cessation of frosts. It is anticipated that the crop of apples will be lighter than . usual as a "result of the very cold weather. The snow on the mountains, which is lying lower than it usually does at this time of the year, is a never-ceasing cause of worry to growers.
