FALL FROM BUILDING
MAN KILLED INSTANTLY EARLY MORNING TRAGEDY As the result of a fall into the street from a fifth storey window of a block of city flats , where he lived, Mr. James Horton, aged 48, was killed instantly at 5.45 yesterday morning. The tragedy was witnessed by a young woman in the street.
Mr. Horton was a boot and shoe importer. He came to New Zealand from England before the war, and was in business in Cliristchurch and later at Te Aroha. He gave up business about nine months ago owing to ill-health, and went to Rotorua for treatment. W'th his wife ho made a trip to Brisbane a few months ago, and returned only on Saturday, when he and Mrs. Horton went to reside at the fiats. Mr. Horton was a returned soldier.
An inquest was opened before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, yesterday afternoon, when evidence of identification was given. It was stated by a friend that he met deceased on Wednesday afternoon, when ho appeared to bo in normal spirits. The inquest was adjourned.
