POLL FOR DIRECTORS
PROXY VOTES CHALLENGED MOTOR INSURANCE COMPANY [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] ' WELLINGTON. Thursday At the adjourned general meeting of the North Island Motor Union Insurance Company to-day it was announced that the poll to fill two vacant seats on the directorate had resulted as follows:—Dr. E. E. Porritt, 543; Mr. B. L. Donne, 451; Mr. E. A. Batt, 443. A lengthy discussion arose over the question of the validity of approximately 100 proxy votes, which, it was understood, had been received from New Plymouth in favour of Mr. Donne. The chairman declared Dr. Porritt and Mr. Donne to be elected, but a motion, disregarding the ruling of the chairman, was adopted. A motion v.as then passed instructing the directors to investigate the question of the validity of the proxy votes within three months and to take legal opinion on the subject. It is understood that a special general meeting will be convened to consider the report respecting this investigation.
I)r. Porritt and Mr. Donne were the retiring directors. Mr. Batt is chairman of the Wellington Automobile Association.
