OLD MAN GRAVELY HURT
FRACTURE OF THE SPINE , OTHER OCCUPANTS INJURED ■- An old man was gravely injured, and four other people less seriously hurt when a motor-car in which they.vwdre returning from Muriwai to Auckland' skidded and overturned on the mdin route between K.umeu and Waimauku about 3.30 yesterday afternoon. The motor-car was damaged extensively. One of the passengers. Mr. CharJea Morley, aged 76, of 110 Richmond i Road, Ponsonbv, had his spine fracn tured, and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a grave condition, which was unchanged at an early hour this morning.-
Mrs. Annie Alice Anderson, aged 50, of 110 Richmond Road, was also admitted to hospital suffering from concussion, abrasions and shock. Another occupant of the car, Mrs. Moxon, of 7 Farrar Street, Grey Lynn, had her left shoulder injured, while the fourth passenger, a young woman, was treated for a gash on one leg. The driver, Mr. Anderson, escaped with cuts and abrasions.
The motor-car skidded in the loose metal, struck a bank at the slide of the road, and overturned into some scrub. Mr. Morley and Mrs. Anderson were taken to hospital in a St. John ambu-f lance, and the other injured people returned home by motor-car. Mrs. Anderson's condition last night was satisfactory.
ACCIDENT IK CITST MOTHER AND SON INJURED Two persons were injured when a collision occurred shortly after 10 o'clock last night between a motorcar travelling up Anzac Avenue and another leaving Waterloo Quadrant. Mrs. L. A. Hutchings, aged 39, of 44 Harlston Road, Mount Albert, suffered an injury to the foot, and her son. Leslie Francis Hutchings, aged 5, suf. fered facial injuries. Both were admit, ted to the Auckland Hospital.. The front of the car in which they ? were passengers was damaged exten-. sively and the windscreen was shat* tered. The other car was not much damaged and the occupants escaped injury. • ' I COLLISION AT ST. HELIERS YOUNG MAN IN HOSPITAL Injuries to the face were suffered by Mr. Kenneth Reynolds, aged 25, baker, when a motor-car in which he was a passenger struck a telegraphpole after a collision with a large motor-bus at the junction of St. Heliers Bay and Dell Roads, St.. Heliers, shortly after nine o'clock last night. Mr. Reynolds, who lives in Belgiuni Road, Pukekohe, was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance.
The motor-car, a brand new machine* was damaged extensively. The windscreen also was broken, but the driver, Mr. S. A. Hogg, of Pukekohe, escaped with a. shaking. Only slight damage wai done to the bus, which belonp to L. Keys, Limited. OAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE CHILD PASSENGER HURT ' [BT TELEGRAPH —OWX COBHIfiPONDMfT] Saturday A collision occurred between a caf driven by Mr. H. Back, of Whakatanft, and a Bay of Plenty Power Board truck at the eastern approach to the bridge over the Whakatane River last evening. Mr. Back was by Mrs. Back and their daughter Mar« garet, aged eight. The chili received severe cuts about the face and bruises on her body, necessitating hiir removal to the Whakatane Hospital. The car was badly damaged.
