AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS ♦ CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED SURPRISES AT MIDDLEMORE The championships of several golf clubs in Auckland vrero advanced a further stage on Saturday under good conditions. At Middlemore the first round of the senior and intermediate and second round of the junior championships were played. There were two surprise results in the senior championship, R. D. Wright defeating B. G. Thomson, provincial champion, 1 up, and A. L. McLean accounting for B. H. Menzies, 2 and 1. E. L. Bartleet, H. Plumley and i. MacEwan also had close calls. Bartleet's drive at tha 18th found the right-hand carry bunker, but he played a great second shot which found the green, and he won with a four. Boddington, in his match with MacEwan, went round in 76 and it was only at the 19th that MacEwan won. TITIRANGI MATCHES YOUNG DEFEATS WILSON Matches in the senior, intermediate and junior championships of the Titirangi Golf Club were continued on Saturdny. The senior grade match in the third round between J. H. Young and R. L. Wilson was closely contested and went to the 21st hole before Young could claim victory. Results of the various matches were as follows: Senior.—Second round: R. R. McCrystal beat R. B. Carr, 3 and 2. Third round: J. H. Young beat R. L. Wilson, at the 21st. Intermediate. —Semi-final: H.
