AUCKLAND DRAINAGE
REVIEW OF SCHEME action by the board r EARLY MEETING PROPOSED f A further opportunity of considering the scheme for improving the drainage facilities in the Auckland metropolitan district will bo given to the representatives of the interested local bodies at a meeting which the chairman of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, Mr. Ernest Davis, proposes to call. No date has yet been fixed definitely, but it is anticipated that one day next week will be decided upon. It was at first anticipated that the whole matter would have been under review at the last quarterly meeting of the board, which was held on August 28, but as many of the local bodies had expressed a desire to be supplied with further information on the proposals contained in the comprehensive report prepared by the board's engineer, Mr. H. H. Watkins, it was decided to defer consideration. In the meantime Mr. Watkins has visited Wellington, where he conferred with the Minister of Employment, Hon. S. G. Smith, and officials of the Unemployment Board on the possibility of obtaining a subsidy on the cost of the labour "for the proposed works. Testerday Mr. Watkins reported the result of his mission to the chairman and, although no details of this report were available yesterday, Mr. Davis announced that he was now in a position to make proposals to the members of the Drainage Board. He has therefore decided to call a meeting of the board, and will choose a day, probably nextweek, which will be convenient to the members.
