ELUSIVE BURGLAR
SEVERAL HOUSES ENTERED * SUMS OF MONEY TAKEN An elusive thief was active in Mount Eden on Sunday night or early yesterday morning, wheD several houses were entered and a total of about £0 in money was stolen. Although in two instances the man disturbed occupants, he escaped without difficulty. A table covered with crockery, and placed just below a window, was silently crossed by the intruder at the home of Mr. J. Beaslev, at 12 Essex Road. After forcing open the window the man evidently walked right across the table, and then visited the other rooms. He took money totalling £3 from a pocket of Mr. Beasley's trousers and from a purse, leaving the trousers in a passage near the front door. The thief left by the back door. Small sums of money were stolen from several other houses, although in one case the man, after making a thorough search, left without taking anything. In some instances, in spite of the fact that people were sleeping in the room, the thief opened drawers and cupboards in his search for valuables.
