SCHEME AT PAPATOETOE PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD J'roposals for the construction of an o|>eti-uir swiniining hath at Papatoetoe wore advanced a .«tago last ltight, when the Chamber of Commerce decided to submit details of the scheme to a public meeting. A representative committee was established a .few months ago, under the auspices olf the Papatootoe Chamber of Coitimorce, to consider ways and moans of furthering the project. Last nighll reports tvere submitted together with correspondence from State departments aud tho Auckland Jiklucation Board, The reports stated that the cost of if comprehensive scheme on modern lines would be in the region of ;£SOOO.
The sub'commlttae, refwrting on sites, roeommendGcl that one in the recreation reserve,, or in the ricinitv of the. Great South lload, would be eminently suitable- Letters from the Education Board and the Minister of Internal Afli'aira stated funds were not available.
The Milliliter of Employment stated the department would ho prepared to subsidise any authenticated eciieme by contributing 35s a week in respect of any unemployed man engaged full time at standard rates of pay. After discussion it was decided to appoint Messrs. in. McComb, T. It, Smvtheman, H. D. Wily, H. E, Ernost, H. M, Didsbury and P. F. Skinner a sub-cominittoo to arrange details and convene a public meeting.
