WAGES RESTORATION

PUBLIC SERVICE HOPES article in journal "The next few weeks are fraught with full significance for the public service, because within that period one may expect some definite pronouncement from the Government on salaries restoration," states an editorial article in the September issue of the Public Service Journal. "When three representatives of the central committee of the combined service organisations met the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, and discussed the suhject, ho stated that, without committing the Government, he would give a message to the service which, in effect, was that he had the question in mind, would consider it during his absence in England, and was very anxious to do the right thing by the Public Service," the article continues.

"Now that our two principal Ministers have returned from abroad, the moment has arrived for definite action in pressing the service claim for full restoration, and we understand that arrangements aro already under way for an interview with the two returned Ministers. The service has a strong cause indeed. This fact, combined with the undertaking given at the time of the reductions by the Minister of Finance, that consideration of restoration would be given when economic conditions improved, gives the service high expectation that the Government will recognise our claims in practical fashion."
