WAR AND CONSCIENCE
Sir, —We are now enjoying the safety and freedom that our fathers and forefathers fought for, and if we wish to maintain that feedom we must bo prepared to defend it with arms if necessary. True war is wicked and wrong, a thing to be avoided, and 1 dare say that if Italy was enjoying the same standard of living as we are Italians would not wish to fight. They see an opportunity to obtain a better standard of living in Abyssinian possessions. That is Abyssinia's affair to defend. But .Abyssinia is a member of the League of Nations and must bo protected as such. While Italy continues to say "we will fight," a man worth calling the name must defend his honour, his women-folk, his children and his possessions to tho last breath. S. A. HAYDRN .
