ITALY AND ABYSSINIA
Sir, — "Black Guard's" own ref ences and arguments justify the be! that the League exists to preserve 1 status quo. I quite agree that Italy ] played a most reactionary part in 1 attempts to prevent the Austrians fr uniting with the rest of the Gern nation, hut I will not admit that tl is any reason why we should refuse consider Italy's own protest against justice. The point of my reference our national passion for moralising \ that Italy is merely trying to do w] | we did so successfully in the past, tl is, build up a colonial empire. And, b< noted ; no people has succeeded in si ' an aim without infringing upon - rights and liberties of others. As rega - the present dispute, we are apparer b anxious to preserve the independe - of Abyssinia. Very well, the alternai i has been outlined by Signor Gayda: r us give up part of our colonial emj - to such peoples as the Italians and G - mans. Such an action would not re! a weaken the British Commonwealth i Nations, for, after all, the allegiance t millions of people who are not of i own blood is not likely in the future I* prove a source of strength.
