REPORTED LEAGUE OFFER
C. SMITH'S POSITION UNLIKELY TO ACCEPT BAY SELECTOR'S VIEW [nv TEI.KGRA PH —OWN correspondknt] N*A PIER, Monday The reported offer to C. Smith, the Wairoa Maori Rugby player, who was in the running for selection in the HMo Ail Blacks, of a two-year contract to play Ihigby League in Kngland. has apparently not hoe n received by tli.it player, according to information gleaned in Napier this morning, and if and when l:e receives the offer it is most unlikely that it will lie accepted. Mr. X A. McKenzie. the Hawke's Bay selector, said this morning that lie had discussed some time ago with Smith what his attitude would he in the event of such an offer being received, and it was evident that there was no possibility of Smith's acceptance. Smith at present is at his home in the Wairoa district, and, as far as Mr. Mr-Kenzie knew, he had not received the reported offer. "It is not sufficient to induce anybody," said Mr. McKenzie. "Smith is managing his father's farm, and League holds no inducement for him."
