SOUTHERN RACING

RESULTS AT MARTON THREE FAVOURITES WIN ROYAL BANQUET LOSES RIDER Three favourites, Clarion Call, Bantry and Gay Boy, were successful at the Marton Jockey Club's Spring Meeting on Saturday, and most of the other winners were well supported, although Cottesmore was the outsider of the field of five when ho won the Marton Handicap practically from end to end. The race was robbed of considerable interest when the favourite Royal Banquet stumbled badly and lost his rider just after the start. The best dividend of the day was returned by Wyndale, winner of the Otairi Plate, and Passion Fruit was at a good price for second in the Railway Handica p. The conditions for racing were excellent, the weather being beautifully fine and the course in splendid order. One of the features of the racing was the decisive victory of the three-year-old Heritage in the Railway Handicap. Heritage was always in the leading division and gave nothing a chance in the straight, drawing right away. The attendance was fairly good and the totalisator handled £'SSB7 10s, compared with £5106 10s last year, an increase of £7Bl. Results:— OTAIRI PLATE,

TEST FOR EDNA WORTHY A SATISFACTORY DISPLAY After the last race at Epsom on Saturday, C. Moran worked Edna Worthy on the course proper, tho reverso way, under the supervision of Mr. A. E. Commons, stipendiary steward, in accordance with the decision of the New Zealand Trotting Association, which prohibited the mare from racing on left-handed tracks until a favourable report was received from the association's representative. Edna Worthy, who earlier in the day attracted special attention by defeating Hingtrue, was worked in com-, pany with General Sarsfield, and gave a smooth display, handling the track as well as when racing the right way. If the association*B endorsement of Mr. Commons' favourable report is received in time, Moran will most likely race the mare at Wellington next Saturday. TROTTING FIXTURES September 14— Wellington Trotting Club. October s—Methi'en Trotting Club. October 12—New Brighton Trotting Club.
