AUCKLAND TEAM WINS

DEFEAT OF WELLINGTON [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Sunday By 39 points to 27 the touring Auckland Rugby League representative team defeated Wellington. The high scoring provided a feast of bright football. The attendance was estimated at 3000. Auckland was definitely the superior team in the forwards. There was not a great deal of difference between the two sides and one of the features of the match was the battling game played by Wellington. The rare combination of the visiting back line, however, flanked by such a speed merchant aa L. Brown, definitely turned the scales. The way the whole line, from the half to the fullback, threw out the ball and advanced upfield was a revelation. The tackling of Wellington again fell below requirements. In this respect H. Lilburne, who otherwise played an ordinary game, was conspicuous. Brown's combination with A. E. Cooke, centre, repeatedly brought results. Another outstanding man was A. Kay, second fiveeighths. L. Hutt. and H. Tetley were possibly the best of the visitors' forwards, but C. Satherley, J. Laird and D. Herring were always in the picture. The outstanding Wellington backs were A. O'Connor, half, and S. T. Atkins, centre. They have rarely displayed better form. R. Moislsy played a towering forward game, while J. Coutts was on the ball all day. The pack played a virile game and held the speedy Aucklanders well. At times in the second half Wellington had the upper hand. Tries for Auckland were scored by Cooke (2), Hutt (2), Brown (2), E. Brimble, Tetley and Herring. Satherley kicked six goals. For Wellington Moisley scored two tries and O'Connor. Todd and Lilburne one each. Lilburne and O'Connor kicked a penalty goal each and O'Connor, in addition, converted four tries. The teams were: — Auckland.—C. Dempsey, C. Hall. A. E. Cooke. L. Brown, E. Brimble, A. Kay. W.
