DEFEAT OF CITY

TEAM'S WEAK HANDLING Ponsonby had much the better of City in a fast, open game played on No. 2 ground in the Phelan Shield competition. City had the misfortune to lose Wateno and Johnson, who were injured in the first half. The first spell was well contested, and the scores were equal at tho interval. In the second half, however, the Ponsonby backs secured the ball and outplayed City in the loose. Weak handling cost City several tries. Holland, on the wing for Ponsonby, was often prominent in dashing runs. W. Stockley and Deason were also good. Blood and Rogers were the pick of the forwards. For City, Hapi and Wiberg were outstanding among the backs. Herring, Dye and Iveson played good games in the forwards. For Ponsonby, Halloran, Deason, Holland and W. Stockley scored tries. W. Stockley converted three tries and Deason one. For City, Wiberg and Dye scored tries. Maher converted one try and kicked a penalty goal. Mr. P. Rogers was referee. SENIOR PLAYER FAREWELLED Prior to his departure for Wellington on Saturday morning, two presentations were mad« to Mr. Ivan Wilson, the Mount Albert Rugby League Club footballer, by friends at Papakura, where he has resided since his school days. The Papakura Rugby League Football Club, of which he was a member for nearly five years prior to joining Mount Albert, presented him with a travelling rug and extended wishes that he would enjoy a successful football career in Wellington Rugby League. The other presentation was

a leather travelling case from representative sportsman and many personal friends. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Papakura Cricket Club and was also interested in tennis. He has been transferred from the Auckland office to the "Wellington branch of the Vacuum Oil Company. Mr. Wilson has played both at five-eighths and fullback for Mount Albert this season and has given some sound performances. He should be an acquisition to Wellington Rugby League. STALLARD CUP In the Stallard Cup competition, for the senior reserve grade, Marist played good football and defeated Richmond by 16 points to 7. Marist will now meet City in the final. SCHOOLBOY REPRESENTATIVES The first representative primary school boys' match was played at Carlaw Park on Saturday, when Auckland defeated Northland by 20 points to 8. The local team gave a good display of the code and nice passing bouts were a feature of the game. There was very little kicking on either side. Bradley (Auckland) was the outstanding player and gained 17 out of the 20 points scored. He won a new Leeds English club jersey presented by Mr. L. Brown. The Northland team was ent?rtained on Saturday evening at a dinner and will return home to-day.
