POWER BOARD TENDERS
REPLY TO CRITICISM "FULL OF INACCURACIES" The complaints made at a meeting of the Auckland Electrical Contractors' Association concerning the Auckland Electric-Power Board's system of dealing with tenders for the installation of appliances have been criticised by Mr. R. H. Bartley, general manager of the board
Mr. Bartley said that what had been stated at the meeting of the association showed that the speakers were not in possession of the facts. The Power Board had even been confused with the Unemployment Board. It was naturally the anxiety of the Power Board to develop good relations with the trade, and he felt that had been done and that the Power Board's fairness could not be questioned. If the association had any grievances, they should be put in a proper form and submitted to the board. The remarks by the speakers were full of inaccuracies, said Mr. Bartley, and matters which had not even been considered by the board had been raised. As far as any suggestion of accepting lowest tenders that were uneconomic was concerned, there were specific instances of the board hnving declined to accept a lowest tender on the ground that the price quoted was not economic.
