ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

ONEHUNGA DIVISION Now in its 31st year, the Onehunga nursing division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade assembled in the Coronation Hall, Onehunga, on Tuesday evening, when tho activities of the past year were reviewed by the secretary and first officer of the division, Miss M. Scopes. Miss Scopes reported that the standard of proficiency had been well maintained and that a representative team had succeeded in winning the Nurse Sanders Jones Cup in tho annual district competitions. Regular instructional lectures by Drs. W. Howard Thomas, A. L. Noakes and J. Kirkwood had been well attended, and at the annual examination and inspection all the candidates had not only secured a pass but were' warmly congratulated by the examiner, Dr. Neil McDougali. During tho year members had attended to 100 cases on public duty and 80 private cases. First aid and home nursing classes had been established at the Kurahana Maori Girls' Training Home in Onehunga. Contributions of coal and firewood had been made to the, aged poor, through the district nurse, from the proceeds of jumble sales. Tho lady divisional superintendent, Mrs. C. Bassett, presided at tho meeting, and tho Auckland St. John Ambulance Brigade was represented by tho assistant-commisaioner,, Mr. F. J. Hutchinson. the lady corps superintendent, Mrs. E. .Cammell, and tho lady corps officer, Mrs. E. McDowell. District Nurse Soden paid a tribute to the cooperation and assistance rendered by Mrs. T. J. G. Neil, investigation officer of the Onehunga Ladies' Benevolent Society, in numerous cases of acute distress. Mr. Hutchinson congratulated tho members of the division on their enthusiasm and efficiency, and he also expressed appreciation of tho services rendered by Mrs. Bassett. During tho evening photographic groups of the division, taken about 20 years ago, wero presented by Mrs. Bradburn, a former member. A group of Maori girls from tho Kurahana Training Home contributed haka and poi songs. Miss V. Burden rendered violin selections and songs were sung by Mrs. T. Milligan and Miss Ednti Higgins. Miss Madge Higgins played the accompaniments.
