BRIEF STAY AT HOME RESUMPTION OF ACTIVITIES [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] DARGAVILLE. Monday The Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates, who returned to his home at Matakohe on Saturday, had but a short respite from his activities as Minister and member for the Kaipara electorate, for he returned to-day to the affairs of the country. He met several deputations and was kept busily engaged until an hour or two before he addressed a meeting at Dargaville this evening. This morning the Minister met a deputation at Uuawai, the people of Whenuanui asking for a further Government grant to continue boring operations to locate a water supply. A grant of £2OO has already been made and' a further £2OO is sought for the work.' The Minister promised consideration of the request. \ ;;:r Several requests were made by the Holjson County Council. The Whangarei County Council asked that the Government should make good damage to roads and bridges in the county caused by the recent floods: A free grant was asked for. it beinsrcontcnded that the cost should ndt have to be borne by the county. The Minister promised to bring the matter ber fore the Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. Bitchener. This evening, after -addressing the meeting, Mr. Coates .was entertained by the Dargaville committee of bis supporters. The entertainment was. attended by two delegates each from the other committees of his supporters in' the electorate. To-morrow morning Mr. Coates will attend a meeting of supporters at Paparoa and will afterwards proceed to Helensville, where he is t« give an address in,the evening. '_■>
