CRICKET DISPUTE

PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH AUCKLAND AND OTAGO A reply to the protest of the Auckland Crickat Association against the attitude of Otago in suggesting that the Plunket Shield match between the provinces this season could not bo played owing to financial reasons has been received by Mr. W. It. I'ee, chairman of the management committee of the Auckland association. Mr. J M. Fraser, president of the Otago Cricket Association, has suggested that Otago play a Plunket Shield match with Auckland at Christmas time, plav to be restricted to three days instead of the usual tour. Ihe dates suggested for the match are December 24. 25 and 2G, which would allow the Otago team to return South in time to play its fixture with the M.C.C. team on December 31. The Auckland Cricket Association will considei Otago's proposal to-day. Mr. Fee stated last night that the Auckland Association would readily agree to the proposal. Although the rules of the Plunket Shield competition provide for four day matches he did not anticipate any difficulty from the proposed alteration in the duration of the match provided that both sides agree on the question. He did not expect that this agreement would affect tho remaining shield matches to be played by Auckland against Wellington and Canterbury.
