DOCTOR RESIGNS

THE WAIIII HOSPITAL FURTHER DEVELOPMENT CONTROL OF INSTITUTION EFFECT UPON PATIENTS [by telegraph—own correspondent! WAIIII. Monday There was a further development in connection with the Waihi Hospital trouble this morning when, in addition to receiving the resignation of the medical superintendent, Dr. L. It. Hetherington, the managing-secretary, Mr. W. C. Collier, received written notice from the assistant-medical superintendent, Dr. F'. G. Barrowclough, of his intention to relinquish his duties at the expiration of three months. In tendering his resignation Dr. Barrowclough said: —" 1 hereby beg to resign my position as assistant-medical, superintendent as from November 26 next. It appoars to me that I can no longer have any connection with a hospital which insists on employing any incompetent member on its nursing staff. If this state of affairs is to prevail, then I should feel that not only is the recovery of my own patients prejudiced whenever it may be necessary for mo 'to order them into the hospital, but also that the responsibility of taking charge of the institution in the absence of the medical superintendent is too great." Dr. Barrowclough added, in his letter, that about half the patients in the hospital were tinder his care. As far as the domestic staff nt the hospital is concerned it is not anticipated that any difficulty will bo experienced in filling seven of the eight positions being vacated, as already sufficient applications have been received. The only post for which there has so far been no applicant is that of female cook. The appointments will be made tomorrow evening by a sub-committee consisting of Messrs. A. E. Johnson and F. Ward, members of the Hospital Board, and the managing secretary. The successful applicants will commence their duties on Wednesday morning. The crisis in the affairs of the Waihi Hospital has bee:n followed by the board taking the action of inviting applications by advertisement in the Heralu for two sisters six stall nurses, and five hospital aids- It is understood that the boi'fd will also invite applications for the position of matron.
