OTAHUHU CALEDONIANS
OLD DANCES REVIVED Over 120 members and friends of the Otahuhu Caledonian Society enjoyed an excellent programme at a social evening held on Saturday. The guests wore welcomed by the chief, Mr. J. M. Deas, who with other officers was piped to the chair by the pipemajor, Mr. R. A. Archibald. A delightful programme featuring many of the old Scottish songs and dances was presented. The programme was interspersed with Scottish Country dances and reels, their introduction being popular with the gathering. Items were contributed by the following:—Mrs. b. Grcenall (solos), Miss Jean McGowan (solos), Miss June Ellis (elocution), Mr. G. Reid (solos), Norma Thomas, Mavis Game and Jean Sanderson (national and characteristic dances). The accompaniments were played by Mrs. J. MePherson, while Mrs. J. Sanderson played extras at the piano. The dance music was provided by Pipers R. A. Archibald and J. Cooper. Exhibitions of the old-time dances the Circassian Circle, the Eightsome Reel, Rory o' More, Petronclla and the Flowers of Edinburgh, were well received. Supper was served under the direction of Miss Maisie Gardiner and the ladies' committee.
