BLAZING OIL
FACTORY IN FLAMES FIREMAN'S NARROW ESCAPE A fire which broke out in a Me!" bourne factory early 011 a recent morning was fed by hundreds of gallons of oil stored in tanks and drums, and was fanned by a gale. The flames spread to a motor auction room, and damage estimated at £4OOO was done. Thirty firemen foyght the fire for almost two hotrrsf ind thousands of gallons of water was poured into the burning oil with little effect. The factory premises, wHiicli were of corrugated iron and wood, collapsed under the intense heat of the flames. Two explosions occurred, and the burning oil narrowly missed firemen. The motors' auction building, which was surrounded by a wooden partition only from the factory, was saved from destruction by the excellent work of the firemen. The flames burned holes in the wall and spread to the store, whw® more than 40 cars were parked. The flames quickly spread among them. Thirteen cars were burning at one time, but the total damage tothem was estimated at only about £IOOO.
