SARAZEN NOT KNOWN
When Gene Sar.i7.cn was interviewed by the American Golfer on his return to the United States from an extended tour which embraced New Zealand and Australia, among other countries, one of the questions he was asked was whether he went anywhere without being recognised and whether he played whore peoplo had never heard of him. In reply lie said: " Yes, on the Fiji Islands a Hindu professional had never heard of me. And even the one audience 1 usually can count on, tho caddies, who told me that they had never seen anyone hit the ball so far, couldn't even pronounce my name. I said, ' I'm Gene Sarazen from the United States.' That meant nothing to them, but I Hoon gained their esteem when I said I knew Bobby Jones. Bobby's name is known all over the world. These people knew only the rules of the game and Jones' golfing feats."
