RETURNED SOLDIERS
ELLERSLIE CLUB AFFAIRS Tho continued necessity for relieving distress among returned soldiers was shown in the report submitted at the annual meeting of the Ellerslio ExService Men's Club. Mr. H. Lan Simson presided. "The committee regrets that conditions among ex-service men have not improved during the past year, and £ll9 15s has been distributed in the Ei'lcrslie district among returned men and their families," stated the report. The moneys for relief wcro stated to have been mado available from tho Canteen Fund, which donated £55; tho War Council Fund, £-18 los; Poppy Day proceeds, £115; and the Christmas Fund, £3. Actually £25 /s had been collected on Poppy Day in tho district, but only £l3 was received from tho Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association for distribution locally. The cash statement showed a credit balance of £lB lGs sd, which was considered satisfactory in view of the conditions prevailing. Tho report said the social activities had been well maintained, and in addition to club functions the members had participated in bowling and card tournaments with members of other clubs. Public support in the way of assistance on Poppy Day and other functions had boon consistently extended to tho club. Officers woro elected as follows: — Patron, Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P.; president, Mr. H. Lan Simson; vicepresidents, Messrs. \V. G. liartlott, G. F. Johnson and li. H. Mclsaac; treasurer, Mr. 0. A. Prior;, secretary, Mr. J. C. Trebilcock; auditor, Mr. \V. G. Bartlett; committee, Messrs. C. R. Arthur, H. Corhett, E. G. Davis, J. G. Gasparich, J. Hendry, A. E. Jackson, H.. Jackson and W. Jackson.
