RAINBOW TROUT
THOUSANDS IN CITY LAKE CHRISTCHURCH EXPERIMENT For three years the waters of Victoria Lake, in Hagley Park, Christchurch, have harboured some thousands of rainbow trout. Actually a total of 10,000 were liberated there, but doubts exist in tho minds of members of the Fresh Water Committee of tho North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society concerning the numbers and quality of the trout still inhabiting the lake. The Acclimatisation Society's'experts now wish to investigate the numbers of trout still surviving, their growth over the period, and the number which may be expected to thrive m a lake of the dimensions of that in Hagley p fl |»|^ For this purpose the lake is to be drained, subject to the consent of the Domains Board, and an examination of the fish made. Some of the more enthusiastic of the society's members will search in the shallow waters and on the muddy bottom of tho lake for survivors, watch the developments which have taken place, and report to the council. ... Tf Alternative results are possible. It the fish are in good condition, licences may be granted for Hy fishing in the lake in November. If they are still undersized, the experiment begun three years ago will have been proved a railurc and will be discontinued#
