SALE OF CLYDESDALES

AUCTION IN THE SOUTH TOP PRICE OF 250 GUINEAS What may be regarded as further evidence of the revival of interest in the breeding of Clydesdale horses was the largo entry of over 50 stallions, colts and mares at the stud stock sale held last week in Dunedin, states the Otago Daily Times This was probably the first auction of its kind to have been held anywhere in New Zealand for some years, and the high standard of quality paraded augurs well for what the firms concerned hope to be able to establish as an annual fixture. For tho first hour or two of tho sale there were five passings to every sale and, although many of the animals passed in at auction were later sold by private treaty, tho clearance could hardly bo described as a good one. Prices generally reached a very satisfactory level, although in tho majority of cases they were considerably below sellers' ideas of value. That quality was recognised and that buyers realise that to secure good stock good prices must be paid was shown by tho extent of tho bidding even for passed in lots. The top price of tho sale was 250 guineas, secured by Mr. D. S. Brown, of Dunedin, for his rising seven-year-old mare Perfect Lady, who was early selected by good judges as one of the outstanding animals on tho ground.
