MUSIC AND DRAMA
At the fifth meeting of the season of the Orpheus Music and Dramatic Club, held in the Overseas League rooms, an interesting programme was presented before a good attendance or members and friends. On this occasion the club was assisted by Misses Dawn Harding and Gwenda Weir, vocalists, and Misses Mary and Peggy Cruickshank, "who entertained "with dramatic sketches. Miss Weir provided the opening number, "Pace, Mio Dio! from Verdi's " Forza del Destino," and was later associated with Mr. Robert Simmers in another item by the sams composer, "Morro! Morro! from " Traviata." Miss Harding contributed a group of solos from the works ot Coleridge-Taylor, Q»ilter and Gibbs, " This is the Isle of Dreams, The Fuchsia Tree » and " Five Eyes.' Further vocal items were provided by Miss Delme Goldsmith and Air. Geoffrey Laird. The former sang Martini's " Fugitive Love and Phillips' " A Twilight Song, while the latter was heard in Rachmaninoff s " The Island " and a traditional number, " Turn Ye to Me." Misses Peggy and Mary Cruickshank were responsible for the dramatic section of the programme. Tlicv appeared in a sketch or Mary Kelly,"" The Spell" and they also provided a bright comedy sketch, " A Well-Matched Pair." The pianoforte items were all selected from the works of Bach. The soloists were Miss Alison Henry, who played " Fugue No. 7 " and Miss Lucy Tripp, who contributed " Prelude and Fugue Iso. 29. A trio, " Sarabande," from Bach s Sixth English Suite, wns played by Misses Edna Bunting, Joyce McKean and Camillc Le Long. further selections, arranged for two pianos, were given by Miss Theo Halpin, Mrs. H. Wilson, Miss Ludy Tripp and Miss Connie Bissett. These were the gavotte, air, bourree and gigue which comprise the Suite in D.
