WOMEN'S DIVISION

Ardmore. —The second birthday of the branch was recently celebrated, when visitors were present from Clevedon, Drury, Karaka, Takanini, Onewhoro and East Tamaki. Mrs. H. Burnside presided. The afternoon's entertainment began with community singing. Items were given by Mesdames Lever and O'Connell and Miss McCullough. A one-act play presented by members, was much enjoyed. The competition was won by Mrs. Perkins, of Takanini. Prizes for points gained during the past year were awarded as follows: —Competitions: Mrs. Heron, 1; Mrs. G. Burnside, 2. Flowers: Mesdames R. C. Stokes and Finch. Birthday competitions, apron: Mrs. Heron, 1; Mrs. L. Wood and Miss St. Paul, 2. Lampshades: Miss Rhodes, 1; Mrs. L. Wood, 2. The hostesses were Mesdames McCitllough and Dodd. A dance organised by the branch was also held recently, and proved a great success. Brigham's Creek. —A demonstration of quilting by Mrs. Ockleston proved very interesting to members who attended the Brigham's Creek last monthly meeting. A competition for the best home-made toy was won by Miss S. Burrows, with Mrs. Baldwin second. Brookby.—A decision was made to have a bring and buy sale at each alternate meeting, the exchange table to be in operation at some of the meetings, and a points prize to bo given at the end of the year for monthly competitions. The roll call was " My favourite pastime." Mrs. Kerebs won a competition. An organ solo was played bv Mrs. Wenzlick.

"Elstow.—Miss McCormick presided over a good attendance of members. A "family night" was held, when a programme comprising plays, songs, trios, monologues, competitions and games was presented. Tho evening concluded with a dance. A demonstration of mak T ing and changing a sick-bed was given by Miss McCormick. Netherton. —The Netherton branch met recently, Mrs. L. Fisher presiding. A report of the Dominion conference in Wellington was given by Mrs. J. Fisher, who had represented tho branch. Mesdames J. Fisher and Potter were appointed delegates to the next provincial meeting. Mrs. Harker's afternoon tea cloth was chosen for the forthcoming competition to be held in Paeroa. The hostesses were Miss Heappv and Mrs. C. H. Potter. Members of the Farmers' Union were the guests of the branch at afternoon tea. South Auckland Executive.—The quarterly meeting of the South Auckland provincial executive was hold in the parish hall, Te Awamutu, Mrs. F. J. B. Rcyburn presiding. Branches were well represented by their presidents and delegates. Mrs. C. K. Wilson, Dominion president, attended and was heartily welcomed and congratulated on her recent election to office. Interesting reports wore given by the housekeeping secretaries of their activities during the past three months. A large amount of correspondence was dealt with. Reports on the recent conference in Wellington wore given by the president and Miss Marshall. The half-yearly Dominion executive meeting will bo held in Hamilton in January.

An enjoyable Scottish afternoon was spent by visitors and members at tho August meeting of the Kaukapakapa branch. Before the entertainment began Mrs. Osbaldiston gave a resume of the forming of the sub-provincial group of the executive. Mrs. Oliver Shanks and hor pupils gave an exhibition of Highland dancing, while the former also contributed a humorous recitation. Mrs. J. Naughton rendered Scottish songs. Mrs. Grcenall and Mrs. James were the hostesses. The bill of faro was entirely Scottish, and the hnggis, which Mrs. Betteridge carried, was piped in by Mr. J. Ban, who also acted as piper for the dancing. Community singing of Scottish songs and ballads brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. Mr. W. Grecnall, sen., and Mrs. James were the organisers of the entertainment.
