LABOUR DIVIDED
SILVER JUBILEE HONOURS MOTION OF DISAPPROVAL LONDON. Ace. 20 Strenuous efforts are being made behind the scenes to prevent the discussion of a motion to be submitted at the Trades Union Congress on September 2 directed against the Silver Jubilee knighthoods conferred upon Mr. Walter Citrine, secretary of the congress, and Mr. Arthur Pugh, secretary of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation. The motion regrets that trades union officials should accept honours at the hands of a Government not established in the interests of the workers. The leaders are anxious t-o save the congress from ridicule, but the hotheads are determined that the debate shall take place. The movement is divided. Xo lead is forthcoming from the official Labour Party as several of their leaders also received Silver Jubilee honours.
