The fortnightly meeting of the Women's Luncheon Club was held at the Ritz yesterday and was well attended, l'he president, Mrs. K. O'Halloran. presided, and Mrs. Gulliver and Mrs. Kenner acted as hostesses. The speaker was Mr. K. W. Schmittj his subject being " Modern Germany. At the monthly meeting of the Henderson branch of the _ Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary, the Rev. Angus Mcßean gave a talk upon Australia, and he also, with Mrs. McBean, sang a duet. A solo by Mrs. McBean was another enjoyable item, lea hostesses were Mrs. Allely and Mrs. Freeman. The Avondale Old-Time Social Club 'held a social gathering on Saturday evening. Solos were sung by Mrs Breeze, Mrs. Hollier and Mr. Bell, and flute solos were played by Mr. Mvatt. Mrs Bollard was the accompanist. Members of the club presented a oneact play, " Apartments To Let. Dancing concluded a very pleasant evening. The nineth anniversary of the Papakura Girl Guide Company and the sixth anniversary of the brownie pack was celebrated by a birthday party m the Baden Powell' Hut last Saturday. About 90 children and their parents were present for tea and the evening, which followed. Brownie Noelene Lanigan presented Miss Ivy Turner, the retiring " brown owl," with a crystal water jug and goblets, on behalf of the brownie pack. Mr. C. Burgin, on behalf of the parents, spoke appreciatively ot the work done for the pack in Papakura. Competitions, games and items were enjoyed.
