NEW POST OFFICE
CHRISTCHURCH BUILDING COST WILL. BE £200,000 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The director-general of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. G. McNamara, announced to-night that Christchurch is to have a new chief post office, the cost of which will approach £200,000. The construction will be started on the site of the present post office in Cathedral Square within 18 months, and the building should be completed in between two and three years. The new office will be of six or seven storeys, according to the local limit placed on the height of buildings in the city. v The handsome new State Fire Insurance building in Worcester Street was officially opened to-day by Sir Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., in the absence of the Hon. R. Masters. Sir Heaton Rhodes was Minister in charge of the State Fire Office when the site for the new building was purchased 10 years ago.
