IMPROVEMENT IN WAIKATO LIGHT FROST REGISTERED [from ocr own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday There was a distinct improvement in weather conditions in the Waikato to-day. The rainfall for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. totalled 0.30 in. There was little rain during the day, and the sky was fairly clear. Strong north-westerly winds blew throughout the day, and tho atmosphere was cold. Oiue degree of frost was registered in Hamilton this morning. DRY SPELL IN SOUTH SOUTHLAND AND OTAGO FARMERS CARRY WATER [by telegraph OWN correspondent] INVERCARGILL, Tuesday Tho need for rain has been felt in isolated parts of Southland and Otago this winter, but showers in the past few days have relieved tho position to some extent. The falls in Southland have been greater than in Otago, and in Dunedin there has not been very much rain the whole winter. The absence of rain in a few scattered districts was so prolonged that some farmers have had to carry water for household purposes. However, the position has been by no means general, and has not been regarded seriously. As a result of recent showers, grass is beginning to show green again, and tho danger of the unusual condition of a drought in winter-time has passed.
