CITY BURGLARIES
SAFE TAKEN' FROM GARAGE THE USE OF EXPLOSIVES Thieves who entered three business premises in the city on Friday night or early on Saturday morning obtained little of value, and although in one case a safe was removed in a motorcar, it contained only a small sum. The safe was found later, damaged by an explosion which blew often the door, and the motor-car was recovered early on Saturday afternoon. The safe was stolen from the premises of the Auckland Motor Company, Limited, 87-91 Albert Street, and was removed iij a motor-car belonging to a client of the firm, who had parked it in the garage for the night. When a member of the # stuff arrived at 7.45 on Saturday morning, he found one of the double doors ajar. The office was in disorder, and £1 7s (id was missing, while the safe and a late model closed motor-car had also disappeared. The missing safe was found later in the morning on the beach at Orakei, having apparently been tumbled from the wacerfront road and down the embankment. It was extensively damaged, and about £3 10s in money, M well as most of the firm's books, had been taken. The motor-car was recovered in Beaumont Street, Freeman's Bay.. It is believed that the same thieves were responsible for an attempt to blow open the strong-room of the IveW Zealand Towel Supply and Laundry, Limited, 65-67 Victoria Street West. The intruders entered through a window near the back of the Auckland Motor Company's 1_ premises, and exploded a charge in the strong-room door, but failed to open it. A safe m the strong-room contained a large sum of money. The deslcs in the offices were ransacked, and 4s m change was stolen. The premises were entered by thieves about a year ago and £SO was taken. There was nothing stolen at the third place visited, McCabe's Radios, at the corner of .Queen Street and Karangahapa .Road.
POST-BOX RIFLED INCIDENT AT GREY LYNN The thief responsible for the recent series of raids on post-boxes in the suburbs was again active on Saturday night, when a box nt the corner or Great North and Western Springs Roads, Grey Lynn, was broken openThe offence was discovered yesterday. The lock of the box bad been torn away and any letters in the box taken.
