EVENT AT BIRKENHEAD ANNUAL TEAMS CONTEST WIN FOR LYNNDALE CLUB In spite of bitterly cold weather and frequent rnin squalls, over 150 harriers started in the annual 10-men teams championship over a course of 6i miles at Birkenhead on Saturday. University runners immediately showed up, Kay and Stephenson being prominent, as was also Clow, of Calliope. As soon as the open country was reached, however, MacKenzie and J3irtwistle shot to the lead, and opened a small gap from Briggs, Browne and Hill. On the road Bgnin, Briggs went to the front, closely followed by Browne. Hill, running easily, was next, followed by Birtwistle, who was 30 yards further back. llacKeiuio and Littler were teaming for Paputoetoe, with Wilclerspiu, Clayton. Ciompton, Francis, Valder, Neil and F. Savidan next. Doliiu was a little further back. Running like a champion, Briggs finished about 120 yards ahead of Hill. All the Auckland provincial representatives finished in leading places, except for Hill, who defeated four members. Results were as follows:—Briggs (Lynndale), 3Lm 475, 1; Hill (Auckland), 32m 3s, 2; MacKenzie (Papatoetoe), 32m 9s, 3; Browne (Lynndale), 32m 18s, 4; Littler \Pnpatoetoo), 32m 82s, 5; Birtwistle (Auckland), 32m 4Gs, G; Crompton (Lynndale), 32m 50s 7; Clow (Calliope), 33m 3s. 8; Clayton (Calliope), 33m 275, 0; Neil (Presbyterian), 33m 455, 10. The teams' race was won for the third year in succession by the Lynndale Club, their place points totalling 224. Papatoetoe was second with 315, from Presbyterian, 841, University, 341, Calliope, 530, and Wesley, 641. SHIELD CONTEST [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Sunday The annual race for the Vosselcr Shield over a ten miles coursn was held at Lyall Bay. A very cold and strong wind was blowing, but otherwise the conditions were favourable. Eight teams entered for the event, and all were well represented, about 115 runners starting. B.ignall won by 150 yards. Results were:—Bngnall (University), Gsm 575, 1; Tunbridge (Scottish), GGm 355, 2; Ckald (Wellington), GGm 40a, 3.
