Auk. 4 The Now Zealand women's hockey team yesterday defeated Australia in a brilliant match by 2 goals to 1. As the Australian team was not selected until the previous evening the members had no chance to practise together. New Zealand opened the game and attacked throughout. Miss McKenzie scored the first goal and at half-time the score was: New Zealand, .1; Australia, 0. In the second half New Zealand still pressed. Within ten minutes Mrs. Tleid shot cleanly and scored. Australia fought hard, but the speed of Misses MeKenzie, Drake and Cotter, forwards, was too great. The defence of Misses Mackie and Gudsell was very effective. Australia's goal was scored near the end of tlio game.. Misses Mortimer, Dahlberg and Hansen and Mrs, Donald were omitted from the Now Zealand team.
