LOVELOCK BEATEN AGAIN
ATTEMPT ON MILE RECORD WOODERSON FINISHES AHEAD (Received August 4. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 3 There was a sensational ra<ie at Glasgow where an attempt was made to beat the British mile record. -Thomas, a former mile champion, who was receiving 70yds., dropped out at twothirds of the distance, but Riddell, with 35yds. start, and Reeve, 25yds. start, drew out from S. C. Wooderson and J. E. Lovelock, both on scratch. Reeve and Riddell were 20yds. ahead of the hack-markers at the bell. Wooderson, 300 yds. from the finish, challenged Lovelock and they struggled together for 60 yds., when Wooderson sprinted again and beat Lovelock, but was unable to overtake the lea.ders, Reeve winning in 4m. IOJs. Riddell was second. Wooderson's time was 4m. 12 7-los., and Lovelock's 4m 15 3-ss. Wooderson created a Scottish record, but Lovelock's British record of 4m. 12s. stands. There was a surprise result in the mile race at the amateur athletic championships at White City on July 13, when Wooderson, of the Blackheath Harriers, and public school mile champion in 1933, defeated Lovelock in 4m. 17 2-ss. Lovelock's time was 4m. 18 2-ss.
