THE TROTTING TRACK

SOUND WORK AT EPSOM SPRINT BY AUTO MACHINE KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH'S TASK BY ABAYDOS A smart half-milo by Auto Machine ( ami a sound two miles by Kewpio's Triumph were the chief features of interesting work at Epsom on Satur- t day morning. The dirt track was in use, i but the footing was not particularly ; fast. - 3 Auto Machine (A. Brown) ran two ( miles in 4.50 3-5. The first mile and , a-half took 3.45, each half at an even ] gait of 1.15, but he sprinted over the last half in 1.5 3-5. Auto Machine looks i very bright and infused a lot of dash 1 into his final effort. Working the reverse way round, and assisted over the first mile by Kewpie's Crest (J. Gee) and over the second one by Mountain Dell (L. Mitchell), Kewpie's Triumph (K. Bell) covered two miles in 4.42. Ho went away a couple of lengths behind Kewpie's ' Crest, but was with him at the mile in , 2.23, where Mountain Dell jumped away a few lengths ahead. Kewpie's Triumph passed the mile and a-half in 3.32 and, getting through on the rails, finished alongside Mountain Dell to show 1.10 for the last half. .Except for a tendency to boi'e out on the bends, he paced soundly. Ho ran the middle mile in 2.18 and the last mile and ahalf in 3.28. Mountain Dell's Task Mountain Dell, beginning quickly, carried Kewpie's Triumph along at a sound clip for over five furlongs, where she went out wide to allow him to take the rails, and she was not bustled to finish her mile in 2.20 3-5. Kewpie's Crest, pacing resolutely, ran to the mile in 2.24, registering 1.10 for the last half and maintaining this gait for another three furlongs, t Star Pronto (B. Dyer), after going two circuits at a shado worse than a | 2.40 gait, stopped evenly over a mile and a-quarter at a 2.32 clip, displaying keenness. j Worthy Nor (P. M. Morrison) con--1 ceded two seconds' start to Direct Line (J. Paton) and three seconds to the Gumdigger—Lady Doris mar ®_ I Willetts) and Autumn Lou (G. H. \Stubbs), and, trotting stylishly, beat them home in 3.51. Although she was not really going at her best until P<f s " | the three furlongs post, Worthy nor ran tho last half in 1.12 and was in I tho centre of the track. Sho had a 1 sharp tussle in tho straight with the Gumdigger mare, who paced solidly to record 3.54 1-5, tho final section in 11-13 !" 5 - , , « rc . .. n | Autumn Lou, who took 0.00. trotted 1 without mistake but tired in tho last furlong, the half taking 1.14. As it was her first appearance since the Juno meeting, her effort was creditable. Direct Line was always in the picture for a milo and a-quarter, after which he was eased. . Mountain Sun (W. Fleming) trotted steadily over two miles at approximately a 2.35 gait. Ho is in great heart. Nimbus in Good Shape Nimbus (A. W. Broughton) worked ' soundly over three laps, traversing the last mile in 2.28. On the last half he set out after Spessiva (A. Bryce), who was working unhoppled, and, overtaking her at the quarter-post, completed the section in 1.10. Nimbus, who is quickly assuming good racing shape, was not fully extended and -could have 1 ; run a smart half. Spessiva is growing 1 into a nice stamp of tbree-yoar-okl and gavo a neat display. War Girl (J. Holt) was not asked a serious question while covering a mile and a-half, but in a second, task on the sand hit out solidly for two. circuits. She is well forward. Silver Watch (L. * r . Mahoney) ran a mile and a-half in 5.46, tho last half in 1.10. He finished strongly, j Birigen Sun (G. Wobb), working the ! reverse way, trotted a mile in 2.40. In a repeat task the right way round he finished a mile and a-half, with 1.18 ! for tho last half. He trotted smoothly throughout. Webb also gave the Nelson Tasker—Sparkling Pronto filly useful i work, and the sister to Lucky Love paced attractively. Assisted by the Gumdigsrer—Nellie Bramley mare (W. Willetts) for the first mile, Young Rodney (W. Bodman) trotted a mile and a-half in 3.47. He went away a second behind tho maiden pacer, but was alongside her at tho mile in 2.30, the novice beinc pulled up a little further on. Young Rodney trotted very solidly, running the middle half in 1.13 2-5. The Gumdigger mare ran her mile in 2.31, the last half in 1.14 2-5. The Guy Parrish colt (C. G. Leo) and The Triumph colt (G. Paton) trotted several circuits together, maintaining a 2.40 gait for the greater part of the way. Both gave a steady display, with the Guy Parrish trotter doing a shade better at the finish. Wee Machine's Effort Wee Machine (W. Willetts) ran tho last mile and a-quarter of a mile and a-half at a 2.24 gait, putting plenty of vim into his effort. Since he raced at the June meeting his owner, G. Plant, has kept him in good condition with strong jogging and road work and he is in nice order to commence serious tasks. 'V The Gumdigger—Nellie Bramley colt (W. Wiliotts), Great Parrish —Blue Mountain King mare colt (C. G. Lee), Frank Worthy—Sweet Memory filly (L. J. Mahoney), Dean Parrish (J. Gee) and Merrick's Choice (G. H. Stubbs) were associated over three rounds. Half a mile from home Dean Parrish and tho Gumdigger colt drew out and, after running a quarter in 38Js, tho 'latter, who was unhopplod, broke, leaving Dean Parrish to finish the half under restraint in 1.19. Given another halfmile task alone, Dean Parrish recorded 1.12, each quarter in 365. Tho threo-vear-old is very compact, with a fino and determined style of pacing. Gold Pointer (G. Bodman) and Lyn Worthy (A. Bryce) wero companions over two circuits. Gold Pointer has flourished into a fine three-year-old and is improving in speed. Lyn Worthy is a big youngster and is a lazy worker. On the sand Arabond (G. F. Gioson) trotted four laps at a solid clip. He is I carrying a good deal ol condition as i tho 'result of an easy time since the winter meeting. S. M. August gavo Mute, Manoouvre, Lumiuato, Lucky ) Love and the newcomers Compass and II Argolis several rounds of strong work ; on tho same track.
