STANDARD OF SIDESHOWS
REGULATIONS DRAWN UP POWERS OF 'COMMITTEES [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Sunday Following the receipt of representations from the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union the matter of objectionable sideshows was discussed at yesterday's meeting of the executive of the Thames Valley Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Instances of undesirable exhibitions were given by members. The president, Mr. W. A. Clark, stated that while the standard of sideshows had improved of late, there were still undesirable cases about, and the matte;: had recently been taken in hand at a conference of agricultural and pastoral societies. As a result district societies would shortly receive copies of regulations drawn up to combat the evil. In future, before any showman was allotted space, he would have to sign an agreement under which he submitted to the jurisdiction of the show committee entirely. The result of this would be that, even though a sideshow might not lie subject to police interference, and was yet an offence against good taste ; the show committee would have power to expel such sideshow from its grounds, of any space rentals paid.
