FIRE NEAR PAPAKURA
FARM COTTAGE DESTROYED BLAZE IN EARLY MORNING A five-roomed farm cottage situated on Kerikeri Hill, between Papakura and Ardmore, and owned by Mrs. J. R. Sheehan, was destroyed by fixe at about 2 o'clock on Saturday morning. The dwelling, which was used as a residence for a married couple usually employed on the farm, was not occupied at the time of the fire, but preparations were being made for new employees to move in. A quantity of furniture, also owned by Mrs. Sheehan, was destroyed with the building. The fire was first notioed by a truck driver employed by Huriua Quarries, Limited, who was working on night shift about two miles from the cottage. Ho sounded the lire alarm at Papakura and the volunteer fire brigade responded. On their arrival it was found that the fire had obtained a strong hold. Electric power wires had fallen across a fence and the whole length of it was alive. The superintendent of the brigade, Mr. J. Richardson, received a slight shock when severing the connection. The residence of Mrs. Sheehan is situated on the same property as the cottage, but is some considerable distance apart from it and occupants of her homo were not aware until daylight that tho cottage had been destroyed. It was covered by a small insurance.
