TAURANGA SOCIETY'S WORK [by telegraph OWN correspondent] TAT/RANGA, Saturday The success of the Tauranga Beautifying Society's inaugural year was commented upon in the annual report presented to members. The winners of the garden competitions were Mr. W. F. Cross, of First Avenue, and Dr. Watt, of Cameron Road. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Mr. W. S. Harris; president, Mr. B. C. Robbins; vice-presidents, Messrs. F. N. Christian and C. Whiting; lion, secretary, Mr. B. Williams; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. J. Gallagher; hon. auditor, Mr. J. R. Chambers; committee, Mcsdames H. Bradmore, D. Knowles, Messrs. F. Briggs, C. Cameron, D. A. Ivory, V. J. Scantlebury, C. F. Washer, H. L. D. West, T. E. Yonngman, with Messrs. W. McKinnon and A. W. Every as representatives of the Borough Council. The programme of works adopted for the coming year included the completion of the lay-out of the aspen tree reserve, the beautifying of the railway station approach and the planting of pohutukawas on Turret Road foreshore. It was decided that a kauri tree in commemoration of His Majesty's Jubilee should be planted on Arbor Day within the Monmouth Redoubt.
