OBITUARY
MR. J. J. B. VEALE A resident of Epsom, Mr. James Joseph Burt Veale, died on Thursday, aged 71. Born at St. Columb, Cornwall, Mr. Veale arrived in New Zealand ia 1883. He took up farming at Midhirst, Taranaki, where lie married and where he became well known as a representative Rugby footballer. Later he settled at Woodville, where be established a-model dairy farm, which won several prizes as the best of its kind in the district. Ho also was for a period manager for Lorell and Christinas, butter merchants, of London, before the inception of co-operative dairying in New Zealand. About 20 years age he retired and made his home at Epsom. Mr. Veale was an enthusiastic bowler and in ]919 was elected a life-member of the Epsom Bowling Club. He took an active interest in the affairs of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Veale died two mouths ago. There are no children, Mr. Veale's nearest relatives being nephews and nieces. Two of the latter, the Misses Hilda and Doris Veale. resided with him in Ngaroma Road, Epsom. MR. W. HARRIS [BT TEI/EGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUiJANGA. Friday The death has occurred of Mr. William Harris, aged 74. He was born at Truro, Cornwall, and came to Australia over 'SO years ago. He engaged in farm-* ing at Dubbo, New South Wales, and later came to New Zealand and settled at Ngongotaha, near Rotorua. With his son he worked several farms in that district. He retired to reside at Rotorua about 1928, and settled in' Tauranga about two and a-half years ago. Mr. Harris is survived by n widow and one son, Mr. Herbert Harris, of Croydon, Australia, MRS. M. E. REID fBT TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAXTfiANGA. Friday The death has occurred of Mrs. M, E. Reid, wife of Mr. Edward H. Reid. The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. Donald MacLeod, one of the earliest pastoralists in the Shag Valley, Otago. where he owned the well-known Springbank property at Bushev, near Palmersi'Oii South, and was closely identified •wit|i tk- farming development of the .district. After her marriage Mrs. Reid resided on the "Station Peak" property, Hakataraanea, South Canterbury.
