TWO NOTED AVIATORS
VISITORS TO AUOKLANO Two famous aviator®, Sir Charles ;; Kingsford Smith and Mr. Harold Gatty, will be in Auckland together to-day. !i Actually Mr. Gatty has beon ia th* city for several days, having arrived by the Monterey- from the United States on July 12, but Sir Charles is not ex- ; pected until this morning, being a pas- ;i senger on the Aonangi from Sydney. Both are Australian-born. Sir Charles gained fame chiefly through his exploits | in the Southern Cross, in which he flew •:[ round the world, crossed both the At- i lantic and the Pacific, aud made several . flights across the T-asman. In October, 1933, he alro made a solo record flight from England to Australia, this time in the Southern Cross Junior. ' '1 Mr. Gatty came into prominence when he flew roiyid the world with Wiley'! Post in 1932. At present he is head ! of an important United States Army r training school at Rockwell Field, near San Diego, California. His services are ; - also retained by leading United States jaeroplane manufacturers. Though he has lived and worked in the United States for eight years, Mr. «§atty retains Us ■ British citizenship.
