CHILDREN'S DANCE
The annual fancy dress ball of St. .Joseph's Convent scholars filled the To Awamutu Town Hall, on Friday evening, and proved a most spectacular event. Well over one hundred children were prettily and quaintly attired, and they preformed the grand march, folk dances, etc., most creditably. The judges (four ladies) awarded prizes as follows: —Most original costume, seniors Tom Fitzcll (Indian Pundit), Amy Quinn (box of paints); Standards 3 4, Anthony Pivao (John Bull) and Kitty Quinn ("a gay time"); prettiest costume, Carmel Annibal (water sprite); best costumes, standards 1 and 2, Billy McGovern (Robin Redbreast) ; infants, Tracy Sklenars (licensed bookmaker); daintiest costumes, Patty Bowden (Samoan); tiny tots, Kevin O'Connor (Bubbles); best dancer, June Sizemore (ukelele girl); infants, Dorothy Townsend (fairy); best pair Bernard Verner and Gladys) Meredith (King and Queen of Hearts); comic costume, Ursula McCrory, (remains of "departed spirits"); best costumes (special prizes), Margaret Prince (selected recordings) and James Verner (influenza germ).
