PEDESTRIAN KILLED

STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR MEMBER OF STEAMER'S CREW COMPANION IN HOSPITAL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Sunday A fatal accident occurred on the Hutt Road early this morning, when two men were struck by a motor-car and injured, one man, Mr. Roland Bailies, aged 23, married, of London, a trimmer on tho steamer Pakcha, dying shortly afterward. The other man, Mr. Robert Downe, agetj 30, single, of London, also a trimmer on tho Pakeha, was admitted to hospital suffering from abrasions. The men were walking togothor on tho bitumen portion of the road toward Wellington when tho accident occurred. Tho car was driven by Mr. B. Smith, who had with him several passengers. Tho vehicle was returning to Wellington from Petone. Mr. Baines suffered head and body injuries and died almost immediately.

Sunday Mrs. Mary Halloy, aged 67, wife of tho late Mr. William Halloy, died as the result of injuries received when sho was struck by a motor-car while walking to church in Devon Street to-night. The car was driven by Mr. W. B. Martin, of Wanganui. Mrs. Halley died while being taken to hospital. DEATH FOLLOWS ACCIDENT SAD END TO PICTURE VISIT [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] MATAMATA, Sunday A youth, Aubrey Archibald Peddie, aged 17, a son of Mr. William Peddie, farmer, of Mataniata, died this evening as a result of serious head injuries received when ho was struck by a motor-car on tho Matamata-Hinuera Road lato last night. Peddie was walking homo from tho pictures with his sister, Myrla Peddie, when he was struck from behind by a car driven by a youth, Maurice Condor, son of. a Ilinuera farmer. Miss Peddie was also knocked down, suffering injuries to the face and a leg. Tho youth was obviously seriously injured, and was taken to a private hospital near to the scene of tho accident. 110 was found to bo suffering from serious head injuries and concussion. His death occurred to-night. His sister was a bio to return to her home after her injuries had been attended to at tho hospital.
