RETURN TO MAY 25 NET REVENUE DOWN £659 [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] "WELLINGTON, Thursday A decrease of £659 in the working profit, compared with the result for the corresponding period last year, is shown by the accounts of the Railw ay Department for the four weeks ended May 25, an abstract of which was published in the Gazette to-day. The net revenue was £106,304 against £106,963 last year. The gross revenue for the whole system was £540,565, an increase of £2L,867, and the expenses were £434,261, an increase of £22,256. The operating profit on the North Island railways was £45,591 or £lllO more than last year, while that in the South Island decreased by £2132, from £39,432 to £37,300. In the North Island revenue increased by £278,097, and expenses by £13,906 to £232,506. In the South Island the revenue of £208,287 was £4651 higher, while expenses increased by £b<«3 to £170,987. , Net revenue from other than railway services was £23,413 or £358 more than last year. The gross revenue was £54,181, and the expenditure, £30,/bB. The net revenue for the two periods to May 25 this year, was £223,995, compared with £223,022 last year, an increase of £973. The gross revenue was £1,072,769, an increase of £33,490, while the working expenses were £848,774, or £32,522 more than in 1934.
