SEQUEL TO DUEL
TWO STUDENTS FINED MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY MELBOURNE, June 25 Stanislaus Joseph von Ingwersen, descendant of a noble Dutch family, and Peter Lalor, great-grandson of the Eureka stockade hero, who fought a duel on June 21, were fined £1 each by the vice-chancellor of Melbourne University for a breach of the regulations governing the conduct of students. It was to avenge his honour after having been expelled from the University Conservative Club that von Ingwersen fought La lor. The latter had proposed a motion for Ingwersen's expulsion, and Ingwersen regarded this a.s a stain upon his honour and challenged Lalor to a duel with foils. Clad in cloaks and accompanied by their seconds, an umpire and a surgeon, the duellists fought until Lalor stumbled and Ingwersen's foil gashed his ear. The contestants then shook hands and retired to drink cofleo.
