THAMES MINES SCHOOL

[by telegraph—own correspondent] THAMES, Tuesday The Thafnes School of Council last evening received advice from the Under-Secretary of Mines that the Minister had approved of a further ore crushing subsidy of £SO being made available under certain conditions. Limitations on the number of loads allowed to parties were varied, in order that men in parties of over two might not be penalised.

The director reported that 17 loads of quartz were treated at the battery during the month for a return of 800/.. 14dwt. of bullion, and that 196 gold and silver assays had been put through. The quantity of ore offering for crushing had eased considerably, and it appeared that three heads at the present time would more" than cope with the quantity being mined. The secretary reported that Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P., had intimated his intention of giving the strongest support to the council's protest regarding the suggestion to abandon the Kauaeranga water race.
