SALE OF MOTOR VEHICLE
TRANSFER NOT NOTIFIED THREE OWNERS CONVICTED 3_i The sale of a motor-truck without the registration papers having been completed and transferred resulted in the three different owners concerned appearing in the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court yesterday. Andrew Alex. Brown was charged with operating a vehicle without registration plates and having no certificate of registration. A dealer, Bernard Murray Morley, and William Milligan were each charged with failing to notify change of ownership and transfer the registration papers. T. C. Clissold, main highway traffic inspector, said he found Brown using the vehicle on June 4. It had old number plates. Witness said he made inquiries and found that Brown had acquired the truck from Morley on March 5. No notification of change of ownership was made. "I then found that Milligan had sold the truck to Morley on March 4," continued witness. "When the actual transfer was made in registration Morley's name did not appear at all, the transfer being made from Milligan to Brown," continued witness. Milligan, in evidence, said he handed over the papers to Morley with the vehicle and considered his responsibility then ended. Brown said be asked Morley for the papers and could not obtain the new plates without them. The magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, said there were frequently cases of this sort where dealers passed over cars without appearing in the official registration papers themselves. He said all three must be convicted. Milligan was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs. Brown was fined £1 and 10s costs on each charge and Morley fined £2 and 10s costs.
