SUFFOCATED IN MUD
YOUNG MAORI'S FATE SEIZURE ON HIS WAY HOME [by telegraph—own correspondent! KAWAKAWA. Tuesday A verdict that death was due to suffocation following an epileptic seizure was returned by the coroner, Mr. T. J. V. Dunlop, at an inquest held at Waihaha this morning into the death of a Maori,. Tamiti Taurau, aged 21. E'eceased left Waihaha early on Saturday morning with a football team for Whangaruru, where he played in a match. A dance was held that evening, after which the team left in batches fo:r home, having to traverse a mud track, which is very steep in places and full of pot holes. Some of deceased's mates stayed the night at a friend's house on the road, and deceased went on alone. On Sunday morning, when returning to Waihaha, those who had stopped overnight found the body of deceased lying on the track, face downwards in mild. His horse was standing near by with one foot caught in the bridle. I)r. Frengley gave evidence that he had attended deceased for epileptic fits, and was of opinion that death was due to suffocation following a fit.
